Towers looks sharp in loss

Blue Jays at the plate: In the fifth inning, catcher Jason Phillips hit a solo home run to left field -- his first of the spring. Bengie Molina had an RBI single that scored Aaron Hill in the first.
Tigers at the plate: Nick McIntyre had an infield single, and a resulting error, that scored Josh Phelps and Reggie Taylor in the seventh inning. Ramon Santiago's fielder's choice in the ninth inning knocked in Ryan Ludwick for the go-ahead run.
Blue Jays on the mound: Starter Josh Towers worked three scoreless innings, struck out three and allowed one hit. Towers threw 35 pitches, 26 for strikes. Left-hander Matt Blank gave up one run on one hit and hit one batter in one inning to pick up the loss.
Tigers on the mound: Starter Joel Zumaya gave up one unearned run across three innings and struck out two. Chad Durbin struck out one in two innings of relief, but he gave up the solo shot to Phillips. Eulogio De La Cruz pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win. Hector Mercado picked up the save.
Grapefruit League records: Blue Jays 2-7; Tigers 5-2.
