Late error costly for Toronto

Reds at the plate: Third baseman Edwin Encarnacion continued his hot spring in a 2-for-3 day that included a double. He also reached on an error that scored Cincinnati's first run in the fifth. Seeing a spot as an extra outfielder, Quinton McCracken was also 2-for-3 with a double to center field. Rich Aurilia hit a two-run single in the fifth. Non-roster outfielder DeWayne Wise led off the seventh with a home run to right field off Francisco Rosario. It was Wise's second homer this spring. Ex-Jay Frank Menechino scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th on a throwing error following an errant pitch.
Blue Jays at the plate: Eric Hinske broke a scoreless tie with a leadoff home run in the fourth inning. Later in the fourth, Kevin Barker added an RBI double to the wall in left field and scored on Wayne Lydon's bloop RBI single to center field. John McDonald and Ryan Roberts hit back-to-back one-out homers to left field in the top of the eighth off Jason Standridge.
Reds on the mound: In his second spring start, left-hander Brandon Claussen allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits over four innings. Claussen, who walked two and struck out one, had a run of three scoreless innings until Hinske's homer. Right-hander Jimmy Journell allowed one hit and struck out over one scoreless inning of relief. Lefty Brian Shackelford followed with two scoreless innings.
Blue Jays on the mound: In his first start this spring, prospect Josh Banks worked two scoreless innings and allowed two hits. Banks did not walk a batter and struck out one. Jason Frasor followed with one scoreless inning while giving up one hit and one walk. Toronto's Vince Perkins gave up leadoff double to Denorfia in the 10th and then walked the bases loaded to bring home tying run.
Grapefruit League records: Reds 7-5; Blue Jays 3-8.
